12/01/09 – Nature’s Crossroads Launches Seed Collections and Garden Kits for Christmas

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On December 1st, 2009, Nature’s Crossroads opened its webstore to the public with a selection of seed collections and gardening kits for gardeners of all ages and skill levels.  Several products were designed for children like the Sunflower Fort Garden Kit with seeds for growing a secret hideout and the Down and Dirty Seed Collection that includes four different root vegetables and a bar of locally made soap.

Nature’s Crossroads is a new seed company in Bloomington focused on organic seeds and gardening supplies.  The company sells products through their webstore, seed racks in retail outlets around central Indiana, and a unique school fundraiser program.  In 2009, Nature’s Crossroads conducted two pilot fundraisers with Clear Creek Elementary School.  Each fundraiser includes an educational presentation, a packet of information for teachers, and prizes sourced from local businesses.

One of the goals of Nature’s Crossroads is to encourage organic gardening in Indiana and surrounding states by supporting garden clubs and classes, especially those that involve kids.  The company is currently looking for gardening groups around the state that promote earth-friendly gardening.  “We are committed to getting involved with the community and finding ways to support the local gardening movement beyond simply selling high quality seeds,” said team coordinator Maggie Sullivan.  “We have identified many opportunities for garden clubs that range from fundraising programs to educational events to seed donations.  I’m always excited to learn about new programs focused on urban gardening, youth education, and food-not-lawn conversions!”

Another big goal is to find local sources of organic seeds.  In 2010, Nature’s Crossroads will be selling about a dozen heirloom tomato varieties that were grown by its sister business, LIFE Certified Organic Farm in Morgan County.  Their goal is to increase the number of locally grown varieties every year by working with LIFE and other certified organic farms to produce high quality seeds that are well-adapted to the Midwest climate.  “Our intention is to provide our customers with local, high quality seeds while also supporting small organic farms in Indiana,” said Ms. Sullivan.

Nature’s Crossroads will begin offering its full 2010 product line through their webstore on January 11th and will host a virtual grand opening on February 1st, including several contests and prizes for organic gardeners.  For more information about Nature’s Crossroads, please contact Maggie Sullivan at 812-327-9612 or e-mail maggie@naturescrossroads.com.
